Let’s get creative! We’ll be using the kitchen to tie dye something with natural materials (such as turmeric or beetroot). Please note there are a few things you’ll need to organise BEFORE this class (see the list below) and the process can take about 2hrs (though the video is only about 30mins as we paused it while things simmered for an hour or so. So you can pause the video once your saucepans are bubbling away). Get ready to hang out with us, make some stuff and chat about eco-fashion/the state of the world/whatever is on your heart during this make and hang sesh.
NOTE: you may need adult supervision here as you’ll be using the stove top. Make sure that you don’t leave the saucepans simmering as the water may reduce down and you could cause a fire. Keep an eye on things at all times and top up the water if you need as you’re going along.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- choose something you want to dye (and have permission to dye), such as a t-shirt, socks, pillow case, singlet, etc – whatever you like. Bring a few items if you’d like to.
- 2 x saucepans you can use that can fit 8 cups of water in them and permission/supervision to use the stove.
- rubber bands
- your choice of natural materials to make the dye such as: turmeric powder (yellow); red cabbage or berries (purple); beetroot (pink)
